Fire-Dex Rubber Fire Boot Specification
Design
The boots shall be made to fit more like a leather fire boot than any other type of open shaft boots. It shall have a well formed heel cup which keeps the heel in place while walking.
Outer Shell
The outer shell shall be made from natural rubber and Nitrile which is a man made material. The nitrile gives the rubber more abrasion resistance and makes the rubber flame retardant. Yellow high visibility rubber shall be used at the toe, heel and top line of the boot. The exterior of the rubber shall be sprayed with a layer to silicone to reduce degradation from the sun and Flourescent lighting. This silicone coating also increases the lifetime of the boot.
Molded Lug Outsole
The outsole shall be a molded with a deep lug for increased traction in all types if conditions including muddy ground to slick wet surfaces. It shall be compression molded and die cut to fit each size perfectly.
Protective components
Each boot shall have a roomy corrosion resistant steel toe. A stainless steel, puncture and corrosion resistant mid sole shall cover the entire outside circumference of the foot. The boot shall also have a corrosion resistant steel shank for comfort and stability when standing on ladder shanks. All of these protective components shall be rated to ANSI, NFPA and CSA standards, providing comfort and protection.
Internal Components
Each boot shall have a single density sock liner providing comfort to the foot reducing foot, leg and back fatigue allowing the fire fighter to perform at peak levels for longer periods. A natural wool liner shall wick moisture away from the foot and insulates against heat and cold. This material shall be abrasion resistant increasing the longevity of the boot.
External Rubber Heel Counter
A heavy-duty ribbed rubber external heel counter shall act as a kick off tab and add reinforcement and help maintain shape of heel over the lifetime of the boot.
Pull-on Holes
Each boot shall have pull-on holes large enough to use with a gloved hand designed to last the lifetime of the boot. The holes shall be reinforced with a separate piece of rubber around the circumference of the hole. Boots with sewn-on pull-on straps in lieu of holes will not be acceptable.
Ankle Bone Protection
A yellow piece of rubber shall be placed on the outside exposed area of the boot directly over the ankle bone to reduce chance of injury from foreign object hitting the ankle bone.
Reflective Strip
The black foxing of the boot shall have a built-in reflective strip that can be seen at a distance when illuminated. This reflective strip is completely functional as it is not covered by the bunker pants.
